Turnitin AI Checker

Check a draft against the signals Turnitin's AI writing indicator measures. Sentence-level heatmap, every flag explained. Free, no sign-up.

Turnitin's AI writing indicator reports the share of a submission it believes was machine-generated, sentence by sentence. It does not publish its model, but the observable behaviour is consistent with the signals every detector in this category uses: word-level predictability and variance in sentence structure.

This checker measures that same family of signals and shows you which sentences would carry the most risk. Where it differs from Turnitin is that it tells you why, so you can fix the habit rather than reroll the text.

An important caveat, stated plainly: this is not Turnitin, is not affiliated with Turnitin, and cannot return a Turnitin score. Turnitin has also documented false positives, particularly on writing by non-native English speakers. If you have been flagged unfairly, the heatmap can help you show your work, but the real defence is your drafts, your notes and your version history.

FAQ

Not directly. Turnitin licenses to institutions, and the AI writing indicator is visible to instructors rather than students. Some universities enable a self-check through their LMS, worth asking your librarian, because that is the only way to see a real Turnitin number.

Turnitin claims it does, and independently it clearly catches unedited model output much of the time. It also produces false positives, and its accuracy on edited or mixed human-AI text is far weaker than the headline figures suggest.

Substantive rewriting changes the signals, which is not the same as fooling anything. If the ideas and the work are yours and the prose has been genuinely reworked, the score should fall because the text really has changed. If they are not yours, no tool fixes that and we are not going to pretend otherwise.

The writing analysis and your Style DNA run in your browser. For a real AI score, the text you check is sent to an AI-detection provider, and we never store it. When you rewrite on a paid plan, the draft is sent to our server, rewritten and sent back without being stored. AI features (rewriting, humanizing and Copilot) send the text to Cloudflare Workers AI, which processes it and doesn't keep it.
